    • DOROTHY NIELSEN O'DRISCOLL-Age 94, of Canyon Lake, California. Born in Smithfield, Utah, October 20, 1924 to Harriet Gittens and Wilford Lewis Nielsen. Died May 1, 2019, in Hemet, CA. -Dorothy and her closely knit family descended from Mormon Pioneers that settled in the Salt Lake Utah area during the mid-1800's. In high school, besides the band and drama groups, she also was on the school newspaper staff. She was proud to have been "49'er Queen." -On September 4, 1942, she wed Joy O'Driscoll at "The Little Church of the Flowers" in Glendale, California. -Joy and Dorothy set up house in Los Angeles. When they were not working hard, they drove to the beach on Sunday afternoons and danced at the outdoor Aragon Ballroom to live Big Band Music. They also enjoyed the Palladium, where they danced to Artie Shaw, Glen Miller, Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James and all of the famous Big Bands that were so popular. Joy and Dorothy O'Driscoll were a beautiful couple who danced the night away doing the Swing, Lindy and other dance styles. -After December 7, 1942, Pearl Harbor Day, as Joy joined the Navy, Dorothy went to work at Lockheed Aircraft. -Once her youngest daughter was in high school, Dorothy had an idea for a health food store. She had started buying health food in Culver City and knew this was a great time to open a store. So, she decided to open a new business, Joy Health Foods. She was quite the entrepreneur and she loved her store and her customers, many who became regulars and friends. -Joy and Dorothy retired to Canyon Lake, met lots of good neighbors and friends, enjoying all that the community had to offer. -Dorothy would live an additional 30 years beyond her husband. She kept busy with her girlfriends, including the Go-Go Girls, planning events, playing golf, going to concerts. She enjoyed spending time with her family for holidays. -Her stamina was legendary. Well into her 80s, she worked and traveled with family and friends. She loved to go to football games and to watch sports on TV, cheering for her favorite teams. -The greatest joy of her life were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a doting mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her 3 daughters, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and her brother and sister, all beloved by Dorothy.
