      Obituary
Published in Logan Herald Journal, Annetta G. LaMont (1936 - 2015)
      Obituary
Annetta Gittins LaMont passed away at her home on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, in Preston, Idaho, surrounded by loved ones. Although we will miss her deeply, we are at peace knowing that she is no longer suffering in pain. Annetta was warmly greeted by her husband (Bert), son (Douglas) and grandson (Cody) this morning as she crossed to the other side. We are so blessed to have been a part of this amazing woman's life. Annetta is survived by four of her 10 siblings: Melvin Gittins, Dora Boman, Odell Gittins and Odean McCann. She is survived by her children: Sue Nelson-Preece (Michael) of Lewiston, Utah, Mona LaMont of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Michelle LaMont (Cordell) of Preston, Idaho, Troy LaMont (Melinda) of Logan, Utah, and a daughter-in-law Jan Cundick of Boise, Idaho. She adored her 13 grandchildren as well as all seven of her great-grandchildren.
Annetta is a worker, a fighter, a practical-jokester, a baker and a sweetheart all wrapped up into one amazing woman. Annetta was born in Smithfield, Utah, on Aug. 5, 1936, to Thomas and Katie Gittins. We know Annetta is one of the hardest working women in history. Her work ethic was likely due to being raised in Smithfield and helping out on the farm there. Her siblings also helped develop her sense of humor. Annetta was quick-witted and was a joy to be around. She and Bert got a kick out of teasing their children, including the Christmas morning where they all found eggs, celery and carrots in their stockings. She enjoyed playing games with the family where we all wanted to sit by her and conduct secret trades.
Annetta met the love of her life when she was 18 years old. She and Bert were married Dec. 4, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Ogden, Utah, and Preston, where they raised five children. Annetta enjoyed outdoor activities with her family and took them on annual camping trips to favorite places such as Jackson, Yellowstone, Redfish Lake and Willow Flat. She felt at home in the Mountains.
Annetta fought a long battle with a series of health issues including a stroke, heart problems and arthritis. We are so grateful for her fighting spirit that allowed us extra time with her. Even after her stroke, she was able to continue service at work and in her community. She enjoyed coaching softball and serving as a Young Women's leader at church. Annetta worked at Pop n' Pins Lanes managing and cooking up some delicious café favorites. She later managed the local OP Skaggs grocery store in Preston. After retirement, she enjoyed extra time with her family and helped care for some of her grandchildren.
Annetta was a loyal friend and was touched by the many people who served her. The family is forever grateful to her friends in the church and community and to her caretakers (Rashel Cushman and Davin Fonnesbeck) for serving her until the end.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the Preston 10th Ward church building on 155 N. 200 West in Preston. A viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
