- published in the Windsor Express, Windsor theatre group to give send off to 'true eccentric'
ributes have been paid to a popular member of Windsor Theatre Guild following his death aged 59.
Andy Gittins, from Old Windsor, died from a heart attack on June 2 after a history of heart problems.
He joined the theatre group in 1982, and was also a member of the Slough Writers group.
The amateur actor was a keen playwright and came runner-up for his play Young Shakespeer in The Windsor Fringe Marriott Award for New Drama Writing in 2008.
Fellow guild member Diana Airey first met 'the wonderful actor' when she joined the group 30 years ago.
She said: "I just can't tell you what a clever man he was.
"He was a true eccentric, a talented actor and an accomplished author."
She added: "He is remembered for riding his bike and always wearing open sandals in the winter or summer.
"He wore a large sun hat and always smoked a pipe.
"He loved to be called Sid. I never knew how or why it came about."
He had no known family but members of the guild have promised to give him a fitting send-off at Slough Crematorium on Tuesday at 9.30am.
