      Hi,

If we can depend on the practice of naming the first male child after the father, maybe it was a James Gittens who married Valentine Fitzpatrick. I have in my database one potential James Gittings who was included on page 105 which is a militia listing,in the Omitted Chapters from Hotten's . I have "assumed" James to be a son of John Gettings and Mabel. James may be too old for a marriage with Valentine, but that may explain his death before the 1715 census. Some thoughts!

This is no real proof that james was a son of John Gittens. It seems logical that the Gittings may have come to Barbados in a family group.

Assumed James as about 20 years of age in 1679. CCG [3]

I have assumed that James is a son of John Gittings Senior and Mabel but there is no direct evidence supporting this assumption.
