I had John Hamlet Gittens as the son of Honourable, Colonel John Gittens in 2010 when I did a hard copy report. Somehow that got changed before April 2013 and I don't know why as I can't find any notes on a change. I have changed it back again as John Hamlet's estimated birth date generally fits.

The Will below provides a clue as to who his parents were. I say this because his sister Margaret, who married Hugh Perry, family retained the Sedgwick name in the form of her daughter, Margaret Sedgwick Perry.

The only Sedgwick that I know of, was Dr. Samuel Sedgwick, who along with his wife and children are recorded in the Census of 1715, as living in St. George:

      Samuel Sedgwick

was the son of John Sedgwick and Mrs. Sedgwick Martha Murcott.

He and Catherine ( WALCOTT ? ) married circa 1705.

      Samuel Sedgwick 33; ( born about 1682 )

      Catherine Sedgwick 32;( born about 1683 )

      Children :

      Sarah Sedgwick 9 ( born about 1706 )

      Margaret Sedgwick 8 (born about 1707 )

James Sedgwick (born about 1709 )

Mary Sedgwick (born about 1711 )

John Sedgwick (born about 1713 )

Catherine Sedgwick (born about 1715 )

My guess is that Margaret Sedgwick, above, married a Gittens, and was the mother of this family.
