- on the goflight web site a web site dedicated to memorials/orbituaries of Kennedy Space Centre Area Space Pioneers., Niels Longfield Lahr went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 1, 2007. He died at home surrounded by his devoted wife, Mary Ann and family.
Niels was born in Babson Park, FL. He graduated from Lake Wales High School. He received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Florida and then worked for the Boeing Company at Kennedy Space Center.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island. Mr. Lahr is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann; four daughters, Sharon (James) Cabe, Susan (Kent) Poimboeuf, Kelly (Brian) Milby of Madison, AL and Shanna (Barry) Ginn; ten grandchildren, Jourdan and Kyle Cabe, Nicholas, Noah Alaina and Kaley Poimboeuf, Cole and Caitlin Milby and Madeline and Meredith Ginn; and two sisters, Joyce Calecca and Luralyn Calitri. The Celebration of Life Service is to be held on Saturday, March 10th, at 1 p.m., at the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, 140 Magnolia Avenue, Merritt Island, FL 32952 or to the Seed of Abraham Ministries 890 N. Banana River Drive, Merritt Island, FL 32952. Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa is in charge of arrangements.
