1738RB6/27/442 I Edward Gittens of the parish of Christ Church …my debts and funeral charges being first paid. I give and bequeath as follows…
To my loving wife the one fourth part of my personal estate and the other three fourth parts …to my two sons Samuel Gittens, Joshua Gittens and my daughter Hannah Gittens…when they shall arrive to the age as follows, vizt: my sons at twenty one years , and my daughter at the age of fifteen years or the day of marriage…
Item. …to my loving wife three negros vizt: Fortune & Parismas men and Obbah a woman during her natural life and after her decease …to my son Samuel…Fortune…to my son Joshua…Parismas…to my daughter Hannah…Obbah…but if my said wife should think it convenient to sell or dispose of the above mentioned negros…I do by these presents give herfull powers to do so…and the money to be paid to my said children inequal divisions…all the rest and residue of my estate …to my son Samuel Gittens… My loving wife Executrix and my two sons…Executors…13November 1737 Witnesses: Francis Hough, John Gittens.
