Page 31 1834RB4/67/173 Elizabeth Gittens of the parish of St. Michael spinster… I do hereby give full power to my Executrix and Executor…to sell …my three following slaves viz James, John William and John Peters allowing the above named James the privilege of choosing an owner, it being a promise made to him for his good behaviour…and the monies arising there from together with any monies that may be due tome from the Tenants…to be applied as follows: …just debts… to be paid…. …to my sister Mary Gittens and my nephew Robert Hendy and the survivor of them…my Negro woman slave named Laetetia…in Trust…that they shall by a good and sufficient deed of conveyance…sell and convey to any person who shall be living in …Great Britain…about to leave this island… that such person do and shall as may be convenientby a good and sufficient deed of manumission…manumit enfranchise and set free of and from all manner of servitude and bondage what so ever the said Laetitia and her issue… such Deed of Manumission …to be proved in the usual legal way, and to be recorded in the Secretary'sOffice of this island. ….what plate I may be possessed of to my sister the said Mary Gittens for her life, and at her death, the snuffers and tray…to my niece Ann Elphinstone Hendy, and the remainder to my niece Rebecca Gittens Haversaat….The balance of money…unto my two great nieces Ann Jones Hendy Daughter of Robert and Ann Hendy and Frederica Haversaat Daughter of George Frederic and Rebecca Gittens Haversaat……I appoint my sister Mary Gittens Executrix and my nephew Robert Hendy Executor. 15 February 1824.
