Among their descendants were Ward Atwater, a prominent sea captian in the West Indies trade, and Jeremiah Atwater, president of Middlebury College, Vermont & later of the Dickinson College of Pennsylvania (Ref. "Gen. & Family History of the State of Conn.: A Record of the Achievements of Her People in the Making of a Commonwealth and the Founding of a Nation, Vol. IV). He became a freeman of Wallingford in October of 1683. A weaver by trade, he settled on a farm that belonged to his brother, Joshua.
