Major A.R. "Kelly" Foster receiving the insignia of Member of the British Empire (MBE) from His Excellency the Governor, Sir Alfred Savage. In the background is Mr. H.H. Williams - his supporter. Mr. Williams had already been awarded the MBE and in those days you had to bring a friend who had a similar honour to support you.
Maj. Foster received the Award in the Category of "Sport". In addition to water polo and swimming he had made great contributions in football and boxing among other sporting activities. As a matter of fact he captained the Rovers Football team in the 30s in which nine or ten members were named Foster. Several of them were his sons ! !
His friend Mr. Williams at the time was Secretary of the YMCA. (Paul Foster e-mail Aug 27, 2010)
