William Holder, who married Elizabeth Thorpe, was the grandson of the Hon. William Holder of St. James, d. August 11, 1705, and probably son of the William Holder whose will was proved in Barbados 1727. He seems to have lived a good deal in London, as both his sons were born there, but died in Barbados, and, and was buried in the burial ground attached to the Holder plantation. His will, dated August 13th, 1752, was pr. P.C.C. 1753 (Searle 47).
His mother Mary Ashley survived him. She was probably the widow of John Ashley, "late of Barbados and now of Blackheath" whose will dated Oct. 9, 1750 (P.C.C. Bushy 273) and pr. October 1751, mentions his wife Mary. Elizabeth Holder, like her mother Deborah Thorpe, remained a widow for some twenty years. She died at Bristol, where she had been living in King's Square in the Parish of St. James, June 19, 1783, and was buried at Hinton Charterhouse near Bath. Will dated Oct. 23, 1782 pr. P.C.C.
