    Hello Cliff,
I have to say that I haven't gotten very far with this research - meaning generations before Robert. Although I have gotten a lot of information on "Robert Smith" - deciphering who is who continues to be a trial as there were a few Robert Smiths in BG in the 1800s:
    1. a Medical Doctor who married Helen McFarlane and seemed to reside in New Amsterdam
    2. The owner, attorney etc. of Cornelia Ida estate and others in the West Coast Demerara Area
    3. The half-brother of George Anderson and owner of estates in the East Coast of Demerara Area
    4. A member of the Court of Policy
    5. A merchant in Water Street
My bet is that Margaret Amanda's father was number 2 on that list as he is the father cited in relation to the Cornelia Ida estate in the announcements of Margaret Amanda and her sister Jane Elizabeth's marriages and you can find these on the BG Colonists Site by Van Cooten and the Argosy Newspaper of BG by Veecock. I have never found anything about Mary J. Smith who was with Margaret and Jane Elizabeth in Wales at a time when Robert would have married Maria Vijfhuis. These two had Louisa Albertina who is the object of my interest. I have an obituary of her brother Victor Vijfhuis in which is mentioned Mr. Robert Smith in relation to horse racing which I will send to you.
I attach information of the 1860 estates where you can find at Number 2 and Number 3 cited as managers, attorneys and owners of various estates and the information I have put together.
For now, I don't know whether all I have done is for nought on my part as I have a continued dilemma as to who I think is Margaret Amanda's half sister Louisa Albertina and a great great grandmother of mine - Louisa Ann who seem in many cases to be one and the same person. Certainly I think you will be happy to learn something of the father of Margaret Amanda Smith and sundry information about those girls and relatives that I have gotten.
My conclusions can well be contested and I suppose you will have your own work cut out for you to find out more.
